Webinar – Developing Computational Thinking in Early Childhood – a Discussion with Dr. Marina Bers

August 5, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us on Wednesday, August 5th at 2pm (EST) for the webinar – “Developing Computational Thinking in Early Childhood – a Discussion with Dr. Marina Bers”

Coding and robotics in early childhood give educators wonderful tools to develop new ways of thinking, expressing, and learning for young children. Researchers use the term “computational thinking” to describe the problem solving and critical thinking that young children engage in when programming a robot or computer. But computational thinking is not limited to computer science; when coding, children break hard problems down into smaller parts, understand symbols and representation, identify and fix mistakes, and practice sequencing.

Incorporating computational thinking in a natural, age-appropriate, and playful way is possible when we integrate creative coding experiences across the classroom curriculum. Early childhood classrooms that include coding allow children to move, dance, tell stories, and explore new ideas. Like literacy and art, computational thinking becomes a tool children can use to express themselves.
